UK deputy prime minister Nick Clegg has been criticised for saying he would consider sending his child to a private school. The statement comes less than a year after he spoke publicly about the “corrosive” rift in education between private and state schools.

VoR's Brendan Cole discusses the broader issue of private versus state schools and obstacles to social mobility in British society with:

Mark Thompson, the Liberal Democrat political blogger

Conrad Landin, the Labour activist and associate editor of Left Futures

Barnaby Lenon, the chairman of the Independent Schools Council and former headmaster of Harrow School

Alka Sehgal-Cuthbert,  a teacher who is doing a PhD in philosophy of education.
